IPL 2025 Mega Auctions
The governing council of IPL has confirmed the mega auction for IPL 2025 in 2025. The Mega Auction of IPL is held every three years to give teams a chance to change the composition of their team.
According to the news, the teams will get a limited number of retentions, and the remaining players will go to the Auction pool. And maybe each team will have the right to Match Card to retain the players in the team that match a bid during the auction.
The venue and date of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction are yet to be released by the officials. The last time the mega auction happened was in 2022 at a private hotel in Bengaluru. The BCCI will announce the date and Mega Auction venue soon.
What can be the deadline for IPL 2025 retention?
The IPL teams get the deadline to submit the retained players list as per the IPL retention Rules to the BCCI before the IPL Mega auction.
Generally, the teams need to submit their retained players list a month before the IPL mega auction. So, you expect the list near November or December 2024.
IPL Player Retention Policies
The teams get a 100 crore budget for the IPL auction and according to the rules, 75% of the budget should be allocated to players.
In the retention of IPL players, salary cap and retention rules play a crucial role. The BCCI has set some retention policies for teams where when they retain players they pay a price from their budget or salary to retain that player, here is the distribution of retained players’ salaries:
- Player 1 Salary up to 14 crore
- Player 2 Salary up to 10 crore
- Player 3 Salary up to 7 crore
- Player 4 Salary up to 6 crore
So, if the teams retained four players they lose almost half of the budget, so it will be interesting to choose which players teams will choose to retain for the next season’s Mega Auction.
Apart from that, releasing an IPL player from the team is another important decision that the team takes to work on their core strategy to become stronger in the next season.
The most probable release can come from RCB can release Faf considering his age and retaining young players. Glen Maxwell’s performance in the 2024 IPL can let RCB release him from the next season.
Some teams have many strong contenders to retain like Rajasthan Royals, KKR, etc., making the retention decision tough for them.
