UmaSofia Shrivastava, who was crowned Miss USA in 2023, resigned her post on Wednesday after months of grappling with this decision. After two days Noelia Voigt stepped down as Miss USA.

Miss USA resigned on 8 May, Wednesday, the pageant community just shocking days after Miss USA said she would relinquish her crown. She announced her resignation in an Instagram post saying that “Never compromise your physical and mental well-being”. 

After months of grappling with this decision, She made a choice to resign from the title of Miss USA 2023, the high school teen from New Jersey won the pageant back in September and had expressed her pride at being the first Mexican-India American to hold the role. 

Voigt 24 is the first title holder in the pageant’s and she was born in Sarasota to a Venezuelan mother, 72 years history to voluntarily step down.

Miss USA Pageant Career 

UmaSofia Srivastva represented New Jersey as a first generation Mexican-India American at the national level and was crowned as the Miss New Jersey Teen USA. After that year, she was crowned as the Miss Teen USA.

  • She became the second consecutive titleholder of India descent after Faron Medhi in 2022.
  • Srivastava aims to become a UN ambassador and has been already working towards that goal.
  • The beauty pageant winner works closely with the lotus petal foundation to help underprivileged children in India and receive education, proper nutrition or healthcare.
  • She authored The White Jaguar to inspire people. The book is written in four languages: English, Spanish, Hindi and french.
  • Besides this, she also runs a blog, “That’s Fan Behaviour”, where she shares her experience as a woman of colour and the ongoing events.
  • She currently studies in Class 11 as part of the National Honor Society and she is the co-founder of the Diversity and campaign at her school and actively participates in Mock Trials and also in Model UN.
  • Srivastava is planning to start the college application process.
  • She also donated 1000 books to inner-city kids in New Jersey through the Bridge of Books Foundation.

As the pageant world tries to find its stiletto heel in a modern landscape, two former winners of the Miss USA organisation have come forward to announce they are stepping down from their titles and are no longer affiliated with the group. 

Srivastva shared that her” personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organisation.” On Wednesday, Miss Teen USA 2023 UmaSofia Srivastava posted the official resignation of her title and crown to Instagram. 

In her statements, the New Jersey teen offered a vague explanation for her departure, noting the move was necessary because her personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organisation.

She says that “After that, I have been made the choice to resign from the title of The Miss USA. I am grateful for all the support from my family, my state discretion and  my sister and also my fans who have cheered me on since I won my state title and now this was certainly not how I saw my reign coming to a close”.

Who owns the USA pageant?

Founder Laylah Rose took over the Miss USA brand as a president and CEO. According to WWD, Rose is also CEO of the VIP pageantry television network, and owns a clothing brand called Laylah Rose Couture.

One of the most notable owners, Donald Trump, who owned at least part of the Miss Universe organisation from 1996 until 2015, as of feb, 2021, former Miss USA Crystle Stewart has been the president and national director owner of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants.

The Miss International Organization and the brand have been owned since 1968, with Miss International Japan by the International Cultural Association and Miss Paris Group. This pageant is part of the Miss USA Organization that is owned by the Texas native Crystle Stewart herself, a Miss USA for 2008.
