PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
The central government launched the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana on 15 February 2024. The scheme aims to offer free electricity to households who opt for installing rooftop solar electricity systems at their premises.
Under the scheme, households will receive 300 units of electricity every month for free. The beneficiary also receives financial assistance in the form of a subsidy to install the solar panels on their roof.

Subsidy Structure of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme
The scheme provides a subsidy to households installing solar panels as per the following structure:
- For Households: The government offers the following subsidy for households installing solar plants according to the capacity of the solar plant and the average monthly consumption:

- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- You must own a house with a roof to install the solar power system.
- You must have a valid electricity connection.
- You have not availed any other subsidiary for solar panels.
Application Process to avail the benefits of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Interested people can apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and avail the subsidy in the following steps:
- Go to the official website of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana mentioned above.
- Scroll down to the “Quick Links” section and click on “Apply for Rooftop Solar.”
- Now, register yourself on the portal with the following:
- Select your state and electricity Distribution company,
- Fill out the Electricity Consumer number, mobile number, and email ID.
- Log in with your Consumer number and Mobile number on the portal and apply for the rooftop solar plant.
- When you get the feasibility approval from the DISCOM, select any registered vendors from the portal and get your solar panel installed.
- Now, after the installation, submit the plant details to the authorities and apply for the net meter.
- Now, an inspecting officer will come to inspect the installed solar panels, and if everything is as per the guidelines, a commissioning certificate will be generated on the portal of the scheme.
- Once the Commission certificate is available on the portal, submit your bank details and a canceled cheque to the portal, and in 30 days you will receive your subsidy in your bank account.
