On 11 March 2024, Surya Kiran, a well-known director, screenwriter, and child actor passed away. He was known for many films in the South film industry, his demise came as a shock to the film industry.

Surya Kiran was born in a South Indian family on 6 September 1974 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was born to T.S. Mani and his mother Radha. He has two sisters – Sujitha Dhanush and Sunitha Radha.

His sister, Sujitha Dhanush, also works in the entertainment industry as an actress. 

Surya Kiran started his career in the Telugu film industry as a child actor and later on, he was more intrigued towards filmmaking and became a filmmaker. 

He is known for his films Raju Bhai, Satya, and others. He has worked with many leading actors in the South industry. He has worked as a screenwriter as well and made his name in the South industry with his exceptional work. 

He was suffering from severe jaundice and he was admitted to GEM Hospital in Chennai. He died while fighting the long battle with jaundice on 11 March 2024 at his Chennai residence.

Personal life and Education of Surya Kiran

Surya Kiran was passionate about acting from his early days, he acted as a child actor and later on, moved to Hyderabad to make his career in acting. 

He completed his higher secondary from RK Matriculation School of Chennai and dropped out from his corporate science college to pursue his acting career.

Married Life and Family

  • He was married to actress Kalyani, known for her acting in Avunu Valliddaru Istapaddaru. According to the news, they both parted ways a few years ago.
  • He was devastated after his divorce and led a low-key life till now. Later on, he came to the limelight when he participated in 2020 season 4 of Big Boss Telugu and got evicted in the first week. 
  • His younger sister, Sujitha Dhanush, is a well-known name in the Telugu TV industry. She got her fame through Vadinamma and Papam Pasivadu Telugu TV drama serials.

Surya Kiran hails from Chennai and acted in more than 200 films as a child actor. He was known as “Master Suresh” in the film industry during his child acting days, he played the role of a child actor for stars like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and many more.

He was featured as a child actor in many Telugu and Tamil films, such as Snehikkan Oru Pennu (1978), Kadal Meengal (1981), Mangamma Sabadham (1985), Khaidi No 786 (1987), etc.  

Directorial Career

  • Surya Kiran moved to filmmaking in 2003 with a Telugu movie, “Satyam,” which was produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni. The film was a super hit at the box office and ran in theaters for 150 days.
  • Actress Genelia debuted through this film in the Telugu industry.  The movie made Surya Kiran established as a talented director. 
  • His directorial movies include Dhana 51 (2005), Raju Bhai (2007), and Chapter 6 (2010). His directorial career was paused due to the financial loss of his production house and his separation from his wife. 
  • He took a break from filmmaking after the divorce and financial loss. In 2020, he appeared on Big Boss 4, the show hosted by Nagarjuna. He participated in the show along with Gangavva, and Noel Sean. Though he got evicted on the first week of the show, he decided to resume his career in filmmaking. 

According to the interviews, he shared that he was working on various film projects. His last and latest movie “Arasi” is all set to release on the big picture featuring Varalaxmi Srathkumar in 2024-2025.

  • Two Nandi Awards in Tollywood for his directorial work.
  • Two Center Awards for his work as a child artist in the South film industry.

Filmmaker and screenwriter Surya Kiran has left the world suddenly due to jaundice. The South film fraternity is mourning his loss, may his soul rest in peace.
