World Health Day 2024 Date, Theme, Significance, and History!

World Health Day 2024

Every year, we celebrate World Health Day on 7 April to promote the message of maintaining good health and embracing healthy habits. In today’s article, we will discuss the theme of this year’s World Health Day and the healthy habits to include in your lifestyle from this day on.

World Health Day 2024

The world celebrates World Health Day to spread awareness of global health issues and promote healthy habits for well-being.

WHO, the autonomous organization under the United Nations, works to promote universal quality healthcare access to people all over the globe and to present the threatening health issues in the world.

The day also celebrated the achievement of WHO in promoting the best healthcare practices and making healthcare accessible to everyone around the globe. Health is the basic right of every individual, and WHO has made it its mission to fulfill this right of everyone around the globe.

World Health Day is celebrated all over the globe by governments, health organizations, and non-governmental organizations to raise awareness of rising health issues and the best practices for a healthy life.

World Health Day 2024 Theme

Every year, the WHO decides the theme of World Health Day to emphasize certain diseases or aspects related to the health of individuals.

This year, the WHO is celebrating the 76th founding anniversary of the organization. The theme of 2024 World Health Day is “My Health, My Right,” focusing on the Right to Health, quality healthcare, and information.

According to the WHO, the right to health of millions of individuals is under threat this year. The organization has found that almost 140 countries around the world have recognized the Right to Health in their constitution, but still some places are deprived of this basic right.

According to the WHO report, such countries lack strict laws to ensure quality healthcare for their citizens. The report of 2021 highlights that almost the world’s population is deprived of essential healthcare services.

Therefore, the WHO has kept the 2024 theme focussing on the Right To health to address this global health threat.

The 2024 World Health Day theme promotes the message that every individual has the right to quality healthcare, information, safe drinking water, education, good nutritious food, favorable environmental conditions, quality housing, and freedom from any discrimination.

History and Significance of World Health Day

The World Health Organization’s proposal was put forward in 1945 at the United Nations to fulfill the need of the International Health Organization to look into the matters of global health.

The proposal was passed in the United Nations, and World Health Organization constitutions came into effect on 7 April 1948. The first World Health Assembly of WHO passed the agreement to celebrate World Health Day on 7 April every year, as it marks the foundation of the World Health Organization and sees it as an opportunity to draw people’s attention to global health.

The day calls for the government and other stakeholders to work better for the well-being of people and build a stronger and more resilient healthcare structure for the people.

WHO organizes various campaigns and events on World Health Day to highlight the importance of improving healthcare services, promoting public awareness of diseases, and education, and investing in research and development of medicines, and machinery of healthcare.
