Carbon Tax Rebate April 2024 Payout 

The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) changes in 2024, formerly known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP) from 2021 to 2023. 

The government provides tax-free financial assistance to eligible families and individuals in Canada. The amount covers the basic payout and the supplement for the rural and small communities.

The taxpayers who filed their tax returns electronically by 15 March 2024 will soon receive their CCR payment in April 2024. 

The taxpayers who will file after 15 March 2024 will receive their payment later after the agency reviews their return. 

In April 2024, the residents of provinces will receive their first quarterly payment of CCR. 

The CCR payments are granted to residents on the 15th of every quarterly month. 

The taxpayers would receive their payment annually on:

  • 15 April 2024
  • 15 July 2024
  • 15 October 2024
  • 15 January 2025

If the 15 falls on weekends, Sundays, or public holidays, the payment will be processed on the last business day before the 15th of the month.

Who qualifies for the Canada Carbon Rebate?

The parameters on which you qualify for the Carbon tax rebate are:

  • You should be a taxpayer and a resident of Canada in the month before the payment.
  • You must be a resident of the province from the following provinces:
  1. Saskatchewan
  2. Nova Scotia
  3. Manitoba
  4. Alberta
  5. Ontario
  6. Newfoundland and Labrador
  7. Prince Edward Island
  8. New Brunswick
  • Age limit: 19 years in the month before the CRA makes a payment. If you fall under 19 years of age, then you must meet the following conditions:
  1. You had or have a married partner or common law-partner.
  2. You have lived or are living with your child.
  • Eligible child conditions under CCR:
  1. The child should be under the age of 19 years to avail of the CCR benefits.
  2. The child is under your care and is living with you.
  3. Your child must be registered for the CCR, GST/ HST credit, or Child tax credits.

How to claim the April 2024 CCR amounts?

The residents of Canada who filed the tax returns don’t need to apply for the CCR.  So, to receive the Canada Carbon rebate, you must file your tax return, even if you have no income to report to get the benefits of CCR. 

For new residents:

When you have children:

  • The newcomer had to fill the Form RC66, Canada Child Benefits Application to apply for child and family benefits.
  • Fill out the form RC66SCH, status in Canada, and Income Information for the Canada Child Benefits Application to submit your residency, and citizenship details along with your income statement.

When you have no children:

  • Families or individuals with no children have to fill out and sign Form RC151, Canada Carbon Rebate Application, and GST/HST credits.

How much CCR rebate can you expect from the CCR payout?

The carbon tax rebates depend on the province you live in and on your family’s situation. In April 2024, the rural supplement was increased to 20% of the base amount; earlier it was 10% of the base amount. But the consent is still pending in the Royal Assent.

For the province Prince Edward Island: The rural amount is added in the base amount as all the residents of the province are eligible for the rural supplements. The base amount of the Carbon tax rebate for Prince Edward Island:

  • $110 for an individual
  • $27.50 for every child under 19
  • $55 for a spouse or common-law partner and the first child in a single-parent family. 

The taxpayers who wish to receive the April payment of CCR must file their taxes before 15 March 2024.
