Currently Muhammad Aurangzeb is serving as the Pakistan Finance Minister and he is also a Pakistani banker. Previously he worked as CEO and president of Habib Bank Limited from Feb 2018 to March 2024.

Muhammad Aurangzeb is one of the newly selected finance ministers in Pakistan and his earlier educational and other track records are also very impressive. At present the age of the Pakistan finance minister is around 59.

Muhammad Aurangzeb Early Life

Muhammad Aurangzeb was born in Lahore, Pakistan in 1964. His father worked as Attorney General for Pakistan on 2 occasions and name of father was Chaudhary Muhammad Farooq.

First in the caretaker ministry of Moeenuddin Ahmed Qureshi in 1993 from July to August. Later in the second ministry of Nawaz Sharif from April 1997 until he was removed following the coup on 15th October 1999.

His grandfather was a justice of the Lahore High Court and their name is Chaudhry Muhammad Siddique. Muhammad Aurangzeb uncle Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday worked as the judge of Pakistan Supreme Court.

His other uncle, whose name is Asad Ur Rehman, served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, associated with the Pakistan Muslim League.

Muhammad Aurangzeb attended Aitchison College in Lahore regarding his early education and later gained an Aga Khan Scholarship to study at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Aurangzeb graduated from the Wharton School, earning both the bachelor’s degree in economics and Science and an MBA.

Present Pakistan Finance Minister Career

Muhammad Aurangzeb started his banking career at Citibank initially in Pakistan and then later in New York.

In 2001 Muhammmad joined Dutch bank ABN AMRO in Pakistan where he startlingly worked as a country manager.

Then laterly spent around 8 years at ABN Amro’s headquarters Amsterdam as a global head of wholesale lending and commercial client business. At this time in Amsterdam, he achieved proficiency in the language of Dutch and captured Dutch citizenship.

After some time he left this bank, Aurangzeb joined RBS International where he worked as the head of global banking and market and also as country executive of Singapore until December 2010.

In 2011, he joined JP Morgan in the form of Chief Executive for the bank’s Asia – Pacific corporate division in Singapore where he worked until 2018.

In Feb 2014 he gained an offer to work as the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. He has also served as the chairman of the Pakistan’s Bank Association and as the director of the Pakistan Business Council.

In Feb 2018 he was appointed as the CEO and president of Habib Bank Limited.

In 2024 March, it was reported that Muhammad Aurangzeb was ready to forgo his monthly income package Rs 3 crore at Habib Bank and Dutch nationality to take up the position of federal minister of finance in Shehbaz Sharif’s second cabinet.

On March 11th he was inducted into the federal cabinet PM Shehbaz Sharif with Federal Minister Status. Now he has become the finance minister of Pakistan.

He led HBL to a record profile in 2023 at 113.6 billion Pakistani rupees, a 47% jump from early year as well as turnaround in its international businesses, according to the bank’s financial statement.
